What is dry needling?
Trigger point dry needling involves inserting a tiny monofilament needle in a muscle(s) in order to release shortened bands of muscles and decrease trigger point activity. This can help resolve pain and muscle tension and will help promote healing.
The goal of dry needling is to achieve a local twitch response (LTR) when the needle is inserted into the trigger point. The LTR can “reset” the muscle fibers in the taut muscle band, causing the release of muscle tension and pain.
How is dry needling different from acupuncture?
Trigger point dry needling is a medical treatment that relies on a medical diagnosis to be effective. Traditional acupuncture is used to help diagnose and treat a variety of conditions. Trigger point dry needling is a more specific treatment

What is the cost of dry needling at Achieve Therapy?
Trigger point dry needling is not billable to insurance companies at this time. However, if your physical therapist believes that dry needling may be beneficial to your treatment, there will be no additional cost for this service. If you are utilizing dry needling as a fee-for-service (PT services not billable to insurance company) then there is an associated charge per session. All other therapy services will be billed directly to your insurance for processing.
