Expecting a Baby?

Physical Therapy Can Ease Delivery and Recovery

Pregnancy is a very exciting time for many individuals. The body goes through so many changes as it grows a new little human. Sometimes these changes include postural adjustments, increased load on the pelvic floor, and stretching and thickening of the ligaments.

At times, these changes that your body goes through can cause back pain and pelvic floor issues, as well as muscle weakness that can lead to urinary incontinence and difficulty activating core muscles.

Pregnancy is a natural part of life, and with pre and post-natal therapy, it should be enjoyable. At Achieve Therapy and Fitness, we integrate techniques such as massage therapy and pelvic floor therapy to successfully help make your pregnancy and delivery process as smooth as possible.

Our goal here at Achieve is to prepare your body for the journey ahead, so you can focus on getting ready to greet your new little one into this world.

If you are an expectant mama or one who recently gave birth, don’t hesitate to contact Achieve Therapy in Grand Forks, ND, East Grand Forks, MN or Park Rapids, MN today! We’ll help make your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum recovery as easy for you as possible.

Are you experiencing these symptoms?

Achieve Therapy can help mothers deal with pre and postnatal pains as their bodies experience the effects of pregnancy and childbirth. Some of the most common symptoms that expecting or new mother’s experience are:

  • Urinary or fecal incontinence
  • Pain during sex
  • Inability to fully empty the bladder
  • Constipation
  • Prolapse, or the sensation that the organs are “dropping”

If you’re experiencing these symptoms, know that there is help available to you to ease your discomfort and prevent it from coming back in the future. Many new moms begin seeing a physical therapist 6 weeks after giving birth, and some even sooner.

By including physical therapy in your prenatal and postnatal care, you can be better prepared for one of the biggest challenges in your life: delivering and caring for a baby.

How physical therapy can help with scarring

Pregnancy can result in scarring due to C-sections or episiotomies. These can cause restrictions in the myofascial system of the body. This can result in a reduced range of motion or painful sensations as you try to move. Our physical therapy practice uses specific myofascial and scar-release techniques to eliminate these restrictions and prevent your myofascial system from being further compromised.

Some women might also suffer from diastasis recti, also known as abdominal separation. Diastasis recti can interfere with the strengthening of the abdomen muscles and cause what you might refer to as a “pooch.”

Our therapists use the latest evidence-based clinical knowledge in the field to identify and treat this condition, even before your delivery. We conduct our treatment plans with compassion, care, and respect. You can rest assured that no matter what part of your pregnancy you’re currently in, we’ll take care of you and do our best to ensure the highest possible outcome with your recovery!
